ES Construction Kits

CONSTRUCTION:
Skills To Build On

STEM Cobb, CTAE and Construction Ready have collaborated to build student awareness and access to construction careers.  We are adapting our Family STEM Night kits to become ES Construction kits schools can check out to use in STEM classes or receive equipment for a MS CTAE Construction program.

We have trained teachers to participate in our proof of concept.  They will be the first teams to check out our new Construction Kits.  Once we have experimented with these successfully with students, we will begin training others and allowing schools to check out the kits to use with students.  Currently we recommend that the kits be used with students in grades 4 & 5.

The kits will be available to any Cobb School for check out.

About the Resources

In collaboration with Construction Ready we have developed lesson plans for two different builds.  These lessons can take place over multiple weeks or adapted to other formats.  The idea is for teachers and schools to be able to deploy these resources in a method that makes the best sense for their school.  That could be in a STEM Lab, After School Club, STEM Night, Staff Team Building, or other completely original idea.  The kits come with the tools and non-consumable items needed for each build.  The school supplies the lumber and consumable items.

We have created lesson plans and resources for two different builds:  Wind Chimes and a Shadow Box.

Projects include:
  • lesson plans with strong Math, Engineering Design and Career focus
  • graphic organizers
  • assessments
  • presentations
