Program Details for K-5 Science Endorsement
Thank you for your interest in the 2016-2018 Northwest Georgia Mathematics and Science Education Partnership. We will provide teachers with intensive professional learning experiences that will:
- improve and increase content knowledge
- provide teachers with the pedagogy that will improve the teaching and learning of science and the academic achievement of English learners and students with special needs
- help teachers integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects with other disciplines
- develop a cadre of teacher-leaders from high need schools by establishing professional learning community cohorts that will immerse teachers in supportive, sustained, professional learning experiences that are collaborative and collegial in nature.
In addition, each participating teacher will earn approximately $1,300 per year in stipends, 20 PLUs, and about $300 worth of hands-on materials.
While the majority of the program will be delivered during a two-week summer institute and Saturday workshops during the year, the elementary cohort will participate in activities /courses to satisfy the requirements for a science endorsement. This means there is a possibility of K-5 teachers meeting at least 8 Saturdays during the academic year in addition to the 6 days over 2 weeks during the summer.
We will be offering a FREE Code.org workshop for K-5 teachers at Brumby ES on Nov. 12, 2016. Register below.
