The contest that runs 1/8/24 - 3/31/24. The mission of the contest is to raise awareness among students about glass recycling and inspire them to not only learn the basics of glass recycling but to practice environmental conservation. The contest is being sponsored by GA public service commissioners Tim Echols and Jason Shaw along with Arglass and GA Natural Gas.
The concept is simple: A school administrator (teacher for example) and a student, identify as the school's coordinators and use their creativity to inspire glass recycling at their school. The glass will be picked up by the contest’s logistics team at the school on a designated day. The 10 schools with the most pounds of glass collected will receive 10 cash prizes ranging from $400 - $2500.
In order to participate, the administrator and student submit a signed participation agreement and follow the simple guidelines like sorting the glass into colors.
4 documents that explain the contest and answer most questions are attached below.
1. School letter from Tim and Jason explaining the contest
2. Glass recycling 101: 8 key reminders to jumpstart your glass recycling collecting
3. Participation agreement (this is what we need back signed, you can sign and take a picture and send picture if that’s easier than scanning)
4. A 3-page “course outline” that could be used to teach students about the value of glass recycling
Lastly, the school’s coordinator team (teacher and student listed on the participation agreement) will receive a certificate from Commissioners Echols and Shaw recognizing their participation. The letter can be forwarded to the school principal. Also, Commissioner Echols will submit a letter to editor in the AJC, listing the 10 prize winning schools along with the list of all schools, teacher and student coordinators, that signed the agreement and had glass picked up by the contest team.
